Triplex at Venue 505

  • Venue 505 280 Cleveland St Surry Hills, NSW Australia (map)

From humble beginnings in 2013, Funk Engine started as a four-piece made up of students of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music still making their way in the world. Five years and two albums later, they have evolved into a jazz-funk/fusion powerhouse to become one of the most riveting and exciting bands on the jazz scene. Influenced by artists such as Herbie Hancock, Lettuce and Weather Report, Funk Engine combine the tight grooves of funk with explosive jazz improvising that is enjoyed by listeners young and old all over Sydney. 2017 was the biggest year for them yet with the release of their second album Taking a Ride collaborating with award winning rapper DOBBY and an extended horn section. They have also appeared at the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival performing after legendary drummer Terri-Lynne Carrington and the Regrowth Festival. In the past the band held residencies at Lazybones Lounge Marrickville and Mr. Falcons. Ending 2017 with a sell out show at 505, Funk Engine hope to start 2018 with a bang celebrating half a decade of music making with special guests The Domestics and jazz-rock trio Triplex.
